This is a Female Hooded Merganser and her family. The three little ducklings are cute, but her hood is amazing.

I don't share photos of flowers often, but these photos need to be shared.

We were hiking at Stillwater Prairie Reserve early this past week. Near the new bridge we saw this single Gaillardia (Blanket Flower) (second photo). It was so beautiful. As we continued to walk, we found a couple more (top photo). Nature is full of surprises.

How Many Eyes?

This is a Eyed Brown butterfly. There is more color than you may initally see. The hues of browns in the edges are really beautiful, and the 'eyes' make for a beautiful butterfly.

Hunting Lunch

I believe this is the fist Eastern Kingbird we have seen this year. He was about 50 yards away, which made for a difficult photo. It came out better than I expected, especially the second photo.

Like many other species, these birds like to 'wait on an exposed perch and then catch insects in flight.' (Wikipedia). I guess he was hunting lunch.

Butterfly Time!

We are finally seeing more butterflies. This is a Pearl Crescent. I love their color.
