I was trying to get a good photo of the turtle but missed the Hooded Merganser. I didn't see the parents but they had to be there somewhere. The turtle didn't really care.

Saw this Hooded Merganser while hiking on a warmer day. She is not a colorful as the adult males. It was still great to see her.

These are Hooded Merganser. There were setting on a rock when I first saw them. They quickly jumped in the water and moved further away form my location.

Last week we saw the male Hooded Merganser in the small creek near this pond. Today he was hanging out with his date in the pond. It is spring, so perhaps they are nesting nearby .. or just on a hot date.
