There were several Widow Skimmer Dragonflies hovering around, clearly plotting my demise, and I only managed to capture this one photo before they realized I was onto them. I can't imagine the sheer, unadulterated terror this creates for small insects—it's basically a tiny, winged apocalypse out there. 🤣

We spotted this Northern Pearly-Eye Butterfly while hiking early this week. It has so many eyes, it probably saw us coming from three miles away—and judged our hiking boots the entire time!

This is a Hackberry Emperor Butterfly. We haven't seen as many as usual lately, which I think is just a time-of-day issue. It never was a problem in the past, but it sure seems to be the case this year. Apparently, they need to wake up and catch some early morning rays!

I was incredibly fortunate to witness this absolutely stunning Giant Swallowtail butterfly gracefully sipping water and minerals on the banks of the Stillwater River. Honestly, she was working the camera better than a supermodel—she didn't fly away, allowing us to admire her breathtaking wings and photograph her for several minutes.
