It's not a bird .. it's a Ground Squirrel. We saw these at rest areas in Utah, Wyoming, and Nabraska. Cute but they sure make a mess of the landscape.

I did not have to take a long hike to get this photo. This little guy was in a tree in the neighbors back yard. I love how this photo came out. He was there for a long time with total focus on a nut.

We are taking a lot more hikes now that spring weather has arrived. While we see a few birds, the thing we see most seems to be squirrels. They are really happy to have this amazing weather. It's 🥜 to watch them. Often we see 2 to 5 of them playing their version of tag.

This little guy was heading stright towards us then stopped, looked around, picked up a nut and ran the other way. I guess he didn't want to visit with us. Finding food was play time!
