Surprise Otters

I really wish these photos had turned out better. Teresa captured the best photo (1st photo).

Let me back up. We were making our way through Yellowstone when we saw a lot fo cars pulled over to the side of the road near the river. That is always a sign of wildlife, so we pulled over. This is not what I expect to see .. two Otters ! It was cool, but I really wish I had better photos.

A Scenic Drive

We had just started the long drive home when we drove through this beautiful, scenic canyon. We were on US-6 near Helper. Utah. It was a beautiful, scenic drive .. just a long drive.

I shot three of these photos, and Teresa captured the other shot.

What A Big Bill You Have

DSC_6656.jpeg

We saw this Northern Shoveler in Utah. I thought one of us would have a shot of a front view, but all the photos we took were profile views.

In describing this duck, wikipedia put it this way: “This species is unmistakable in the northern hemisphere due to its large spatulate bill.” (wikipedia).

They have great color and an odd bill.

It was exaclty a year ago that I photographed a Baltimore Oriole at about the same spot while hiking. I really think I have heard them a few times since returning from the west, but this time I was able to find him. They are such a beautiful bird.
