We saw this [Field Sparrow](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_sparrow) on a recent hike. She really did not seem concerned about us. In fact, when she did move it was only to relocate a few feet up the trail, then land and watch us again. It sure looked like she was just trying to find some shade on a very hot and sunny day. ~ Rick

Hearing, Identifying, Photographing
I am starting to pay more attention to how birds sound. They are so unique. It's not just about how they sound ... it's more about learning to identify birds by how they sound.
I am using this app called Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab. That link is to the app in the Apple App Store. I believe it can be found on the play store as well. Anyway, one of they tools he includes is that it 'listens' and then identifies birds. It's very cool
While hiking one day last week, I heard a birds that I could not identify so I used the app to identifiy it as a Carolina Wren. Knowning what you are looking for can sometimes help in finding it. Sure enough, I locate her and shot this photo.

She’s Beautiful
I have been watching for a female Eastern Towhee for months. I finally saw one at Charleston Falls Preserve a few days ago.
Reflecting back to past photos, I think the only location where I have photographed a female Eastern towhee has been at this same preserve. Interesting.

Killdeer
We saw there two killdeer on a recent hike at Grand Lake St Marys. The top photo may be the best photo I have ever taken of a killdeer.
