Savannah Sparrow

This is a Savannah Sparrow. They are very common, and are identified by the coloring and patterns in their heads. It was windy, but she was willing to allow us to take a photo.

Sparrow at The Opera

I have shared similar photos before .. a small bird singing her heart out. I was just noticing how different various species of sparrow sound. It’s mind blowing. Get outdoors and listen to those little music makers. It is nothing short of beautiful and amazing.

A Sparrow Waiting for a Friends

FullSizeRender.jpg

Bird activity has been better this week. As the temperatures moderating, we should continue to see more activity. By mid-month we should see warblers. Many other species should be arrive before the end of the month. It’s about to get really exciting.

Nature is everywhere

FullSizeRender.jpg

Teresa took this photograph of this field sparrow earlier this week. This was just before the big snowfall a couple nights ago. It was cold as the temperature was just above 0ºF. The hawk that I shared the photo of yesterday was not far from this very spot. We saw a field mouse scurry across the ground about 3 feet to the right of this sparrow. I guess this explains the hawks intense interest in this spot. Nature is everywhere.

A sparrow

Have you ever felt like this sparrow? He appeared so alone. He pulled up a spot on this fence, and just sat there alone. I think we all have days like the one he is having .. where we feel a little blue and struggle to survive. The elements were not being real nice to our friend either. The wind left him a little blown. I think we often beat ourselves up while blaming everyone else.

What you don’t see in this photo is reality. It was the dawn of a beautiful spring day. The temperature was climbing quickly, and two geese were taking a morning swim across the water.  Sometimes it’s hard to see the beauty of the world around us when we are deep in self-doubt and feelings of frustation.

Look around and take it all in! Beauty is all around you - stop and enjoy it for just a short time. It will change your outlook.
