There You Are!

DSC_1019.jpeg

It has been a while since we posted a photo of a cardinal. They are masters of hide-and-seek.

As in most cases, it started with that ‘tink’ call. We were hiking up this grade when we first heard him. It took a few minutes but this time he was not able to hide. Once he was located, we both started snapping photos. The foliage made it a tough shot, but as you can see, the beauty compensated us for our effort. We both captured a few photos with this being the best of them.

The Lady

DSC_0844.jpeg

A few days ago I posted photos of a male Eastern Towhee. A few days ago I saw this this female Eastern Towhee. The photo is not perfect due to some focus issues, but I wanted to share it. The female has less of the deep colors but she is beautiful.

A Fly By

DSC_0809.jpeg

I have taken a few photos this year of Eastern Towhee’s, but I have never been able to get close enough to get a great capture.

This time was different. We saw this one in this dead tree (see the second photo). It was a long shot, but I snapped a few photos as we hiked. I was farily certain that it was a towhee, but I wanted to confirm it, so I played some of their common calls using my iPhone. That is when it got interesting. This bird flew right over to us .. and after a few low, fast passes, it landed in a tree right beside me. I shot the 1st photo. Wow, how cool.

NOTE: If you are interested, the app I used to play the bird call is ibirdpro. That is a link to the iOS App Store. Its my favorte tool and I use it most days when I hike and photograph birds. It is a great tool for birders.

The Getaway

Teresa was trying to caputre a photo of these two American Goldfinch but they decided to exit the scene. She still managed to caputre this interesting photo as they flew away. Great capture.

Open Wide.

I do not capture very many photos of swallows, but this is a funny shot. It was hot and the sun did not do me any favors for this shot, but that mouth .. wow.
