The Karaoke King

We have heard at least one Common Yellowthroat on every single hike we have taken this spring They like to hid in the tall grast, shrups and trees and I usually don't get a photo. It was cloudy but this one gave me lots of time to capture a photo.

Mockingbird: ‘I can sing anything—watch me remix your ringtone!’” 🎶🐦

I didn't expect to see a Northern Mockingbird on this outing but there he was. I usually hear their call before I see them but this one didn't make a sound.

A Unique Call

This was a first for us ... a Great Crested Flycatcher. You could hear him long before we were able to locate him.

Let's start over. We drove to the bike trail south of town for an early walk. As we began our hike, we heard a bird that we didn't recognize. I could tell he was in the top of the trees above us, but locating him proved to be a challenge. Then he flew away (bummer) so we continued with our hike. !

The bird activity was nuts, but they were difficult to locate in the dense spring foliage. As we walked back to our starting location we heard that unique call again. After a lot of looking for him, I spotted him, but the dude was hiding in the leaves. After what felt like hours, he jumped on a branch where I could snap a couple of photos. What a beautiful bird. A first for sure!

Chill Pearl

We saw a couple Pearl Crescent Butterflies this past week. Frankly it caught me by surprise. The temperature was in the 50s which is a little cold for butterflies. It was sunny but didn't feel like butterfly weather.

Aerobatic Ace Sticks The Landing!

There is more color to this Tree Swallow than I was able to capture in this photo. They are beautiful and so fun to watch fly. They dart around over ponds and rivers while feasting on insects.
