Keep Trying ..

It took as couple weeks but I finally captured a few good Baltimore Oriole photos. I just keep trying to capture the beauty of nature.

What a beautiful bird. I am so grateful for the opprotunity to engage with such a beaitufil bird.

Nature Photography And Baseball?

Nature photography is kind of like baseball: Sometimes you get a single, once in a while you get extra bases … and then on rare occasions you hit a home run. Sadly, some hikes are just a strike out. This day was a great hiking day.

The photos: American Goldfinch ❤️

A Convention?

Hold the birds for a moment: Such a small pond .. but so many turtles. I saw this log with a couple turtle catching some sun so I shot a quick photo. Then was I looked more, I saw more. So many turtles in one small pond. It has to be an international turtle convention or something. 🤯

Serious Redhead

These photos were taken on successive days this week. This Red-Headed Woodpecker was just having a party. We could hear him as we waked the trail, but he never left the area .. even when we came back the second day he was still in this same area.

The Red-Headed Woodpecker is not nearly as common as the other varieties we see in Ohio. I always feel lucky to photograph one.

Finding And Identifying My Bird

Two different Indigo Buntings at two different locations along two different rivers. The photos are not perfect but it was great to see them.

I am often asked how I locate and identify birds. One of my favorite iOS apps is Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab. It has a feature to help identify birds by their song. It will even show you all the birds nearby your location. It looks like this:

I like to use this when I hear a bird that I just cannot identify. Once I know what I am looking for it seems to make locating the bird easier. Once I have the photo, I can use this or other tools to confirm my find.
