Finally .. A Hike

We have not been able to hike as much as we like for the last couple of weeks. It started with a high school reunion, then we drove to Utah to see family and pick up our puppy. What is the best way to fix this? Take a hike.

I have to say, I think we saw more Monarch Butterflies this weekend then we have seen for a long time. The colors of nature will always move me ... and this photo is no exception. It's fall my friends .. get out and enjoy it!

Checkered-skipper

Teresa captured this photo of this Common Checkered-skipper on a hike this week. I have never photographed a checkered-skiipper before. Interesting find.

Lunch Anyone?

It has been a while since the last time I photograped a [Red-bellied Woodpecker](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-bellied_woodpecker). I have seen a few, but neither of us has been able to get a photo. This one gave me that few extra seconds so I could capture a photo. We tend to photograph more woodpeckers in the fall and winter.

I really love watching woodpeckers hunting their lunch ... this guy found somethig yummy (seond photo).

Leaping To Flight

This is a little different. I knew this Blue Jay was in this tree, but I could not find him. When I did, he decided to talk off just as I snapped the photo. The results is this shot .. just as he leaped into flight.

A few weeks back I was hiking with Teresa while trying to create a video for Macstock. As it turned out, I did not inlcude the clip of this Gray Catbird in the video. I really love how these birds sound so much like a cat. It is ironic that a bird can sound like a cat. Wild!
