Just Hanging Out

This year we have seen several Great Blue Heron in trees over various rivers. Over the years I have seen them near a nest but these were not near a nest.

The Egret

I was ready this time. We were looking for Eagles, but there it was .. a Great Egret. I missed the shot last time but I was ready ...

A little note about the Egret:

... generally long-legged wading birds, that have white or buff plumage, developing fine plumes (usually milky white) during the breeding season. Egrets are not a biologically distinct group from herons and have the same build. (wikipedia)

Young Mallards

We came across these two young Mallards while hiking last week. They were very comfortable with us, so we just shot a few photos and then left them alone.

Right In Front Of Me

While we were hiking at Grand Lake Saint Marys State Park–Windy Point we stopped the car to a few photos. We were between hiking trails, and it was a short drive.

We spotted an interesting looking location so I parked the car, opened the door, got out and shot several photos. Sounds good, right? Well, Teresa tells me to look stright in front of me .. I didn't see anything.

Much to my surprise, there was a Great Blue Heron about 30 feet from me, just chilling. I took a few photos, then slowly got back in the car. Teresa slowly opened her door and shot a few more photos. I can't believe he didn't fly away. Amazing.

Wood Ducks On Wood

We saw these young Wood Ducks while hiking this week. It is kind of funny how every other duck is facing 'the other way' from the ducks on each side of her. We saw wood ducks here in the past, but I didn't see any adults this time.
