This is a female Wood Duck. There was several newly hatched ones too but they were behind a rock.

Not a great photo but it is interesting. The pond at Hobart Urban Nature Preserve is looking kind of green but that didn't seem to bother these Wood Ducks.

I know the lighting was not great for this photo. I tried to edit it to make it better but the contrast is not great. With all the rain lately every low spot is full of water. This frequent pond is aways full in the sring then just a field in the late summer. This mommyWood Duck and her baby ducks took off to hide in the bush.

It has been a while since I have photographed a male Wood Duck. The colors are so impressive. They all toook off shortly after I took this photo.
