This is a Female Hooded Merganser and her family. The three little ducklings are cute, but her hood is amazing.

More Great Blue Photos

On our last hike at Grand Lake St. Marys we saw a large number of Great Blue Herons. Instead of just sharing one or two over time, I wanted to share several of them as a single post.

After a great experince with our son and his family at Yellowstone, we drove to Utah. We spend a couple days there befroe heading home.

Before heading home we had some time Monday and we took a drive to the Farmington Bay Wildlife Management Area where we photographed this White-faced Ibis. The last photo is one that Teresa captured, and I took the other two.

What an interesting bird. The photos are a litlte dark, but I think that enhances the photos. Just my taste. ~ Rick

Fight, Fight …

DSC_5733.jpeg

It was a peaceful afternoon .. a few ducks and these two geese were enjoying a nice day on the pond.

DSC_0009.jpeg

While we were taking photos of this pair and the ducks that were also swimming nearby we heard incoming geese ..

DSC_0010.jpeg

They quickly landed, but not far from our peaceful pair.

DSC_5736.jpeg

Our pair did not seem to take this well .. darn intruders.

DSC_5751.jpeg

The response? They quickly flew over to make it known that this was not acceptable. A few quick snaps to make it clear that this will not stand.

DSC_5755.jpeg

The spat did not last long. After a few minutes, peace was restored. Nature can be like politics .. I wonder ..

Teresa shot the photos of the geese landing on the pond. I took the other photos. It was on the cooler side outdoors, but the sun made it a nice day for hiking.

Pelicans

One of the main reasons we went to [Grand Lake St. Marys](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Lake_St._Marys_State_Park) was to photograph the [American White Pelicans](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_white_pelican). During their migration north they stop-over at the lake. When we time it right we see large numbers of them. This year we saw a few, but we missed the large pods. Since we were there on two days, we saw them twice .. but only a few each time. ~ Rick
