Field Sparrow

What a beautiful photo of a Field Sparrow. I love the depth of field in this photo with the deep green. Beautiful.

A Yellow Throat

Funny story: We were hiking near the Stillwater River when we heard a Common Yellowthroat. We looked for a while, but could not locate him.

About a mile later Teresa spotted a bird in the top of a dead tree. I shot a photo and there it was .. another Common Yellowthroat. Maybe it was the same bird .. who knows.

The photo is a little off. It was very cloudy and hard to get a good photo.

Summer Cover

I often wonder how aware the birds are of how much the trees hide them from our view. When we hike we hear so many birds, but we actually photograph a small number of them. I bet we are lucky to get 1% to 3%. Maybe we are not patient enough, but the hiking / photographing passion is not about quanity .. it's abouit the experince and connection with nature.

Hummmmm

A few days ago I was talking to a friend and mentioned that we had not seen any hummingbirds this year. A couple days later, as we were leaving home, and as I locked the door I noticed something very large colorful right by my head. I am talking inches from my eyes. It didn't stick around long but the sound was unmistakenly that of a hummingbird. It did not register right away, but Teresa was a few steps ahead of me and was able to see it bettter. It was so close .. I think it was about to try and get some nectar, perhaps from my ears. I was wearing a red shirt, so maybe the color attracted her.

This week we went to Cox Arboretum to hike with some members of our family. We love spending time with grandchildren and doing it in nature is a win-win. We saw a few butterflies, birds, and turtles. As we were leaving, Teresa captured this photo of a Ruby-throated Hummingbird. I didn't have my cameral at that time so I missed it again. I guess I am suppose to be near them, but not photograph one this year. Next time!!!
