Eastern Bluebird

This week we stopped at Garbry Big Woods Reserve and saw this Eastern Bluebirds. This one was not in great lighting but it is still a decent capture.

Sparrow Hawk?

Its not the best photo I have ever taken of an American Kestrel, but it is the first one I have seen in 2022. In fact, I do not recall photographing one in 2021.

The Kestrel is also called a sparrow hawk. I bet you didn't know that. This is from wikipedia:

The American kestrel (Falco sparverius), also called the sparrow hawk, is the smallest and most common falcon in North America. It has a roughly two-to-one range in size over subspecies and sex, varying in size from about the weight of a blue jay to a mourning dove. It also ranges to South America and is a well-established species that has evolved into 17 subspecies adapted to different environments and habitats throughout the Americas.

Cool!

Downy

It was tough getting a good photo of this Downy Woodpecker. Teresa captured the best photo (1st shot), and mine was the second. They are not perfect, but it was good to see this guy.

It is always interesting to me that we see more woodpeckers in December - March than any time of the year. Maybe it is just that the leaves don't hide them in the winter.

Don’t Mind The Temperature

We finally were able to get out and take a few bird photos. As it turns out, this American Tree Sparrow was happy to allow me to photograph her. It was about 20F out but she did not seem to mind.

Take The Shot

We were hiking (in the mud) when I saw a bird land in a tree some distance away. I thougth to myself, 'this is a long shot, but maybe .. ". I zoomed as much as possible and shot this photo.

I guess I was surprised at how well it came out. Not my best photo, but not bad all things considered. Sometimes you just take the shot .. you never succeed if you don't take the shot.

Have a good day and take the shot.
