This one had me stumped. I had a hard time identifying this bird. I initally thought it was a Golden-cheeked Warbler. The thing is, this the Golden-cheeked Warbler is very rare, and even engangered. They are normally only seen in Texas. (Click the link above to see a photo of the Golden-cheeked Warbler).

Strike one .. so what is the beautiful bird?

After consulting with local experts, I now believe this is a Black-throated Green Warbler . Click the link to check it out. It still had me feeling unsure, but that is what I am going with.

Peace, My Friend

It happend again. Last summer I shared a story about an encounter I had with a Eastern Towhee. I shared how one flew very close to my head (A Fly By). While hiking this past Sunday, I experinced this again.

We saw this Towhee in a nearby tree, but he was not in a good place for a photo. I remember this even from last year, so I pulled out my phone and played a call that was like the one he was making. It only took minutes before he came to check me out.

He flew from one side of the trail to the other .. back an forth a few times. I was concerned that I was creating some stress, so after a couple of photos we moved on.

As we approached the parking area, I could stil her him following us. I decided to play the call one last time. He pearcherd near me for one last photo.

What a cool bird, but a little territorial. Peace my friend.

Worth It!

Over the last few weeks we have heard a lot of woodpeckers. We have seen a few but have not been in a place where we could capture a good photo.

Our luck changed this past week. I really love the colors of woodpeckers. They are often difficult to to locate, but worth the time investment. The reward .. cool photos.

Hunting Lunch

I believe this is the fist Eastern Kingbird we have seen this year. He was about 50 yards away, which made for a difficult photo. It came out better than I expected, especially the second photo.

Like many other species, these birds like to 'wait on an exposed perch and then catch insects in flight.' (Wikipedia). I guess he was hunting lunch.

Like A Boss

I have been trying to capture a photo of an Eastern Phoebe for a couple weeks, but they have been avoiding my lens. I finally was successful. I love their tune .. a unique sound. ❤️

This dude was just acting like the boss ..
