Flying Zebra?

This Zebra Dove was about a foot from me as I walked along the beach. I don’t recall every photographing on of these before. This bird if often found in Asia, but I guess also in Hawaii.

I have to add a photo I took of the sunset. The deck at the AirBnB faces west, so we get to watch the sunset every evening. Conditions were just right to get this amazing view. it looked so amazing with the sun rays looking stunning. The first shot was taken with my iPhone. This is the new 11 Pro Max .. not bad. The second photo was taken with my big boy camera. Both shots were slightly enhanced.

We are about to wrap up our stay in Maui. I have another video to publish, but it may not happen until we get home. The Wi-Fi here has not been good, and uploading to the cloud and YouTube is a very long process.

Tattler On The Beach

Teresa took this photo while we were hiking on the beach near our condo. This is a Wandering Tattler. What is that you ask? It’s a medium-sized sandpiper. They don’t have webbed feet, but I hear they are excellent swimmers.

Teresa nailed several photsos of birds that I missed. This is one of them, and I love this photo. It looks like the bird is walking on glass, but it was on the beach. Live is good in Maui.

A Different Egret

Teresa captured this photo of a Cattle Egret this week. This bird was hanging out on a golf course. We have seen a lot of them here on the island of Maui.

During peak breeding season, the Cattle Egret’s bill, legs, and irises turn bright red. At other times of the year, their bill and eyes are a dull yellow-orange, and their legs are black (like the bird in this photo). And now you know!

In Hidding

I saw this Red-bellied Woodpecker on the other side of the river while hiking last week. He was jumping around, limb to limb, making a photo almost impossible. I kept loosing him in the foilage. I finally snapped a couple of shots ... this is what I captured.

We will be spending some time on the beautiful island of Maui soon. I hope to capture some photos. We are taking are gear. I am not going to take my 600mm lens, or my drone. Trust me, I really wanted to take both of them. I’m just out of space. Watch for photos and videos soon.

A Big Head?

This little guy is an Eastern Phoebe. It’s a fly catcher. I love this description from Wikipedia.org:

”This species appears remarkably big-headed, especially if it puffs up the small crest. Its plumage is gray-brown above. It has a white throat, dirty gray breast and buffish underparts which become whiter during the breeding season. Two indistinct buff bars are present on each wing. Its lack of an eye ring and wingbars, and its all dark bill distinguish it from other North American tyrant flycatchers, and it pumps its tail up and down like other phoebes when perching on a branch. The eastern phoebe's call is a sharp chip, and the song, from which it gets its name, is fee-bee.” Wikipedia.org: Eastern Phoebe
