Sunset Sail

public.jpeg

The one thing we didn’t do in Maui that I wish I had done .. a sunset sailing experience. This sail boat stayed out for the sunset and I know they are available, I just didn’t book anything. So, I’m settling for a photo. Have a great week.

Aloha, Maui!

While we were in Maui we had several opportunities to capture the sunset. It was beautiful every time, but most nights there were a few clouds that kept us from getting a ‘perfect’ photo of the sun setting over the ocean.

The reality is, I love the clouds. They add an extra dimension to the photo. Here is a couple examples.

Flying Zebra?

public.jpeg

This Zebra Dove was about a foot from me as I walked along the beach. I don’t recall every photographing on of these before. This bird if often found in Asia, but I guess also in Hawaii.

I have to add a photo I took of the sunset. The deck at the AirBnB faces west, so we get to watch the sunset every evening. Conditions were just right to get this amazing view. it looked so amazing with the sun rays looking stunning. The first shot was taken with my iPhone. This is the new 11 Pro Max .. not bad. The second photo was taken with my big boy camera. Both shots were slightly enhanced.

We are about to wrap up our stay in Maui. I have another video to publish, but it may not happen until we get home. The Wi-Fi here has not been good, and uploading to the cloud and YouTube is a very long process.

Beyond The Clouds

public.jpeg

When life is overcast and cloudy, knowing that the sun will set, and then it will rise again the next morning makes me feel better.

I love this: just like the sun, we can start over every day. Sometimes the clouds prevent us from seeing the beauty of the sunset or the sunrise. Often the world feels out of control, but know this: The sun will rise.

And like the sun, we can rise and start every day fresh. Don’t let the day, the negativity of others, or the clouds overhead get you down.

We made it to our destination but there was not enough time left to get many photos. I did a time lapse from the deck, but it was cloudy. I am hoping for a clear sunset tomorrow or at least a couple of times before we have to return home. We have a lot of exploring to do.

The photo above is from the deck of our condo, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. This should be a good place to capture some amazing sunset photos and reflect on life’s many sunsets and sunrises.

Free Bird

FullSizeRender.jpg

Lets start with a nostalgic moment: On November 23, 1974 Lynyrd Skynrd released Free Bird as a single. It was released a year earlier on their debut album. When they played Free Bird it live, it would usually go for 13 minutes, to well over 14 minutes. I was in high school. I loved this song.

I remember the sad news in 1977.  I was in college, but at moment I heard it, I was on a date. A tragic plan crash took the life of lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist and vocalist Steve Gaines, backing vocalist Cassie Gaines, and others.

This is still one of my favorite songs. The YouTube video is from 1976 .. it’s from a live performance.

I took the sunset picture with the migrating birds a few weeks ago. It reminded me of this song. I was also reminded of this: We often feel trapped or constrained by our circumstances. More often than not, we limit ourselves with self-doubt and fear. I love how the birds do it. They just ‘go’ and ‘do’.

After a long journey, I don’t think they look back and question their progress .. they just do it again. A few months later, the journey is repeated, in reverse.

I am in awe at the accomplishments of so many of my friends and others that I know. Some of them have beat amazing odds in the most difficult circumstances. So many of them feel overwhelmed by the daily grind and the challenges. They go and do, when it seems impossible. They are my hero’s.
