Algae Mustache?

public.jpeg

If you look closely at this male MalIard, you will noice the algae that he has at the base of his bill. This reminded me of a milk mustache after enjoying milk and cookies .. something I enjoyed as a young boy (and maybe much later in life too). Those are very good memories.

Just before I snapped this photo, two or three of his friends flew away. He stayed put. I guess they were hiding their algae mustache.

Yes, I have photographed a lot of Mallards in the past, but these photos are different. Maybe they are molting, but they have a different appearnce than most male Mallards.

I love both of these photos. I photographed these at a park while we were hiking at the Whitewater River Gorge just outside of Richmond, IN.

Spring Mallard

This may be the best mallard photo I have taken this spring. I have seen a lot of them, but this one was just in the right spot. The lighting was not prefect, but I do love this photo.

Mr and Mrs Mallard

I have seen this scene play out several times this week .. Spring is in the air. These two Mallards will certainly have some young Mallards this spring. Mallards are Monogamous. Bring on the warmer weather, and some green.

Mallards ... Burr

FullSizeRender.jpg

I saw this pair of mallards in the Miami River this week. It was so cold. I am glad it was them in the water and not me. Burr
