Never Give Up!

I have been trying to capture a good photo of a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher for a couple weeks. They jump around so fast and it's just difficult to focus fast enough. Taking your time and being patient pays off .. sometiems. This is a really good photo. Never give up.

Large & Beautiful Butterfly

I think I have said this recently .. Ww are on the front edge of butterfly season and this Eastern Tiger Swallowtail is just beautiful. I don't think we usually see many swallowtails this early but there she was. I love this observation (see the link above):

Swallowtails are very large insects. When basking in the sun, their outspread wings can be 8 to 14 cm (3 to 5.5 inches) from tip to tip. Their colors are vibrant. Broad yellow wings are edged by black and with four stripes, like tapering chevrons from the forewing margins downward into the yellow wings. The bottom edges of the hind wings are especially colorful with bluish scales and one or more red spots. Male Tiger Swallowtails generally have darker blacks and none of the bluish and red scales on their hind wings. Interestingly, there is a black morph, where black replaces the broad yellow expanses. The black morphs also have the bluish and red wing scales on their hind wings.

They are large and beautiful.

Nature Rocks

We are seeing more Chipping Sparrows now. I love this photo. I guess I just keep saying that but nature totally rocks.

Vibrant Orange, Spring Day

We have heard them for a few days but finally captured these photos of a Baltimore Oriole. This is always exciting. That color contrast is stunning.
