Never Give Up!

I have been trying to capture a good photo of a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher for a couple weeks. They jump around so fast and it's just difficult to focus fast enough. Taking your time and being patient pays off .. sometiems. This is a really good photo. Never give up.

Bug Hunter

What a cool male Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. There was more than one, but I could not count them. I was surpried to capture this photo. Very cool. I guess he was hunting bugs.

Small And Beautiful

These photos do not do capture the beauty of the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. The colors are so much brighter .. or at least it seemed that way.

A Little Blue, Little Grey ..

This is not my best photo but this Blue-gray Gnatcatcher was constantly on the move.

Did I say little? They run about 10–13 cm (3.9–5.1 in) in length, 6.3 in (16 cm) in wingspan,[2] and weighing only 5–7 g (0.18–0.25 oz) (wikipedia). Most of that length seems to be in the tail:).

A Gnat Lunch?

We have fequently photographed flycatchers on our many hikes but this week I was surprised to see this Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. Making meals from flies seems like an interesting challenge, but now we are talking gnats? Cool bird.
