The Monarchs Have Arrived

The Monarch Butterflies have arriverd in Ohio. Well, at least this is the 1st one I have seen and photographed this year. I am really excited by this. More on that later.

Isn’t She Lovely

I took several photos of this female Northern Cardinal but I couild not find a location where I couild get a clear shot. I removed the offending branch, but it never looks right so .. here is the photo. She was large as life and so beautiful.

Later I went back and tried to edit it out .. not too bad. That is the second photo.

Later I saw the photo Teresa captured from a much better angle. That is the thrid photo.

‘Chewink’

This Eastern Towhee was in a tree about 5 feet from where I was standing .. and I about walked by. I think he is a young Towhee, but he sure was a brave one.

I like this little clip from wikipedia:

The song is a short drink your teeeeea lasting around one second, starting with a sharp call ("drink!") and ending with a short trill "teeeeea". The name "towhee" is onomatopoeic description of one of the towhee's most common calls, a short two-part call rising in pitch and sometimes also called a "chewink" call. (wikipedia)

I love this bird for its bravery.

Sing It

Sparrows are not the most colorful birds, but there is someting about them that draws me to them. This one is a Field Sparrow. They are my favorite. I think it's their curiosity and beautiful song. They do have a cool beak, but as you can see, there is not a lot of other color. Sing it my feathered friend.

So Much Better

This is a beautiful photo of an Indigo Bunting. He was in a small bush just off the trail and took off as we approached. I was lucky .. he only flew a short distance and stopped. The lighting was nearly perfect and I shot several photos. Special thanks to the universe for a great photo opportunity.
