A Growing Family

I have been expecting to see this soon, but I thought it would be another week or two. Congrats to Mom and Dad.

Almost Missed Her

While we were hiking this past weekend I saw a bird out of the corner of my eye. It flew toward an area where I did not expect to be able to see, never mind photograph anything. We were about to warp up our hike anyway so I figured I would just take a closer look. What I saw was this beautiful female Northern Cardinal. It make the entire hike near perfect.

A First?

I believe this is a 1st year immature male Summer Tanager. I have photographed a few Scarlet Tanagers near the same location where we spotted this one but this is a first for me.

The summer tanager range is just into this part of Ohio. I could be incorrect but I really believe that is what this is. It was a surprise find.

More Green And More Color

The flowers are in bloom and the colors are just gorgeous. I shot the top photo and Teresa photographed the flowers. The trails where we hike are really beautiful.

Red Heads

These red-heads are actaully Red-bellied Woodpeckers. We have heard so many of them lately but it has been rare to find and then photograph one. The top one would climb a few inches, stop and peck at the wood, then repeat. I guess he was too engaged in the hunt to notice me.
