A Tree Party

Adjustments.jpeg

We continue to see a large number of Robins. I didn’t count them, but this tree was loaded. It appears they found a snack that they enjoyed.

Sharing A Feeder

I was surprised when I caught these two woodpeckers in the same photograph. One is a Red-bellied Woodpecker, the other one is a Downy Woodpekcer. They didn’t stay long.

I Have Missed You!

It has been weeks .. no, months since I have photographed a Cardinal. This one was anxious to let me photograph him. Such a beautiful bird.

Native American tradition holds the spiritual belief that spirits, or souls, inhabit the universe and each of its natural elements. The belief that all birds and other animals, known as power or medicine animals, are messengers from the Great Spirit has long been an element of shamanism. Cardinal medicine symbolizes relationships, courtship and monogamy in Native American lore. (Meaning of the red cardinals to the native Americans)

American Tree Sparrow

Adjustments.jpeg
Adjustments.jpeg

It is common to see American tree sparrows this time of year. They are also known as the winter sparrow. They tend to show up in numbers. It's a party I guess.

A few facts about this small sparrow:

Their breeding habitat is tundra or the northern limits of the boreal forest in Alaska and northern Canada. They nest on the ground.

These birds migrate into southern Canada and the United States to spend the winter. Usually, chipping sparrows are moving south around the same time as these birds arrive.

These birds forage on the ground or in low bushes, often in flocks when not nesting. They mainly eat seeds and insects, but also eat some berries. They are commonly seen near feeders with dark-eyed juncos.

This bird's song is a sweet high warble descending in pitch and becoming buzzy near the finish. American tree sparrow: Wikipedia

Standing Watch

We have seen a few birds this week. Several of them have been at bird feeders around Miami County. This little guy was just standing watch and enjoying the warmer weather.
