The Chickadee

Adjustments.jpeg

The weather was mild on Wednesday, so we took a hike. We walked one of the trials at Stillwater Prairie Reserve. We didn’t see many birds, but I did catch this Carolina Chickadee hanging around near the fishing pond. This is the second time I have seen this species this fall. I will just say this: they are hard to catch in a photo. They dart around and are relatively small.

The Carolina Chickadee are found in a large range, covering some 2 million square kilometers. I read that there is an estimated 18 million of them. Not bad for this small bird. (iBird App Facts).

Widow Shopping?

Adjustments.jpeg

Teresa took this photo of this Downy Woodpecker doing some window shopping. I have to wonder if he can’t figure out how to get to his dinner. Very cute.

Surprise!

Adjustments.jpeg

I took several photos of this Red-bellied woodpecker this week. He was going back and forth between this tree, and a bush that had some old berries left over from the warmer weather. I think he had just saw me for the 1st time, and seemed to not care. He continued to take this trip back and forth. In the second photo, he had a beak full.

The Birds

Adjustments.jpeg

Do you remember the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock movie, The Birds?. I remember the first time I saw that film .. freaked me out.

I thought of that movie when looked up and saw this view while hiking this week. Luck for us, they didn’t attack. Crazy.

A Proud Robin

Adjustments.jpeg

The American Robin .. they are always around. Seriously, I can go out in some of the worst weather and see a robin. They migrate, but I see them around here in large numbers most of the year.
