A Red-Tailed Christmas

This Red-tailed Hawk has nothing to do with Christmas but I wanted to share the beauty of this bird.

Have a Merry Christmas and enjoy time with Family. If you are alone or suffering in some way this day I send our prayers for comfort and peace.

Hey, I Was Eating

We do not see Bald Eagles at Big Woods often but this one was feasting on a dead racoon. . She noticed us and took off into the wind, soaring right above us. She landed right above me. I imagine she wasn’t too thrilled that we interrupted her lunch.

Wise, Old Heron

We saw this Great Blue Heron fishing .. or resting. Either way, he did not stick around long once we showed up. I believe this is an older male. Wise and very cool.

The photo did not come out great, but It was great to see him.

Two Young Eagles

We spent some time hiking at Grand Lake St. Marys State Park one day this week. We have been there many times, but I don’t think we have ever seen so many Great Blue Heron’s. I’ll share a few of those photos soon, but today I wanted to share these eagle photos.

We begin our day by hiking at Windy Point. It is one of our favorte spots, and it is considered a good place for birding. My experience echos this. Over the past 3 summers, we have stopped at this location several times, and have seen a number of beautiful birds. It’s never very busy either, so its perfect.

After we hiked to the end of the point and back, we saw these two juvenile bald eagles in a nearby tree. I shot the individual photos, and Teresa captured them both in the 3rd photograph. We almost missed them but stayed put long enough for us to capture a few great photos.

The next two photos were captured as they flew away.

We saw one adult Bald Eagle, but I missed that photo opportunity.

A Break From The Children

Adjustments.jpeg

I took this photo a couple weeks back. I am still trying to get a good photo of this Bald Eagle but getting the camera to Focus at this distance continues to be a challenge. The tree where she is located is about a football field away, and focusing on her in this tree continues to be tough. This shot is not too bad .. just not up to my expecations.

She is keeping an eye on the nest where she has two babies. I thought there was three but I can confirm two now. I guess she needed a break from the children. At this stage, they eat and grow .. a lot.
