She Is Unique

We have seen a few more female Red-winged Blackbirds this week. This is one of the more interesting and detailed photos I have taken of a female red-wing. While the females do not have the bright colors of the males, they certainly have some unique markings.

Lost Swans?

This field is not where I expected to see a Trumpeter Swan. There was actually two of them. Maybe they were avoiding the high water levels in the river.

Lone Teal

This is not the first Blue-winged Teal I have seen this spring, but it is the first time I have been able to capture a photo of one. This male was alone on this small pond.

Sapsucker

Based on what I can see, I believe this is a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker .. even if you can't see the yellow. I took a few photos, but I was not able to capture a photo of the belly region. This is one cool bird.

What A Surprise

For several years Teresa has been telling me there is a beaver in this small pond at Garbry Big Woods Reserve. We have been hiking big woods for years and I have never seen a beaver. There was some wood piles that certainly looked interesting, but I really was doubting there was a beaver there.

With the rainfall this spring, this pond and the creek have become one .. and this has happened twice. As we drive by this pond this week I saw something floating in the water. Much to my surprise, it was the beaver. I can't believe it has taken me so long to see and photograph it.
