Flowers And A Monarch

The temperatures have dropped enough to slow the monarchs. We have seen a few on warmer afternoons, but not many. I had to share this one ... how beautiful.

Catching Lunch

I am not an expert on Swallows. I believe these are both a Northern rough-winged swallow. They were all over the pond at Big Woods Reserve. I guess the insects were out in numbers so they were getting lunch.

Just Hiding

We spotted this American goldfinch while hiking on a cold day this week. Most of the photos was like the first one .. he was hiding in the trees. We saw many more of them, but this was the only one I was able to photograph. I believe this is a male in his winter dress.
