Bufflehead!

We ran across these Bufflehead ducks this week. The two ducks with white crowns are males. The others are females.

The Bufflehead is a diving duck. I watched them dive many times while I was trying to get a good photograph. They have some green in that crown, but I was just too far away to get all the color.

Nesting Time?

Adjustments.jpeg

I hearing from birders that they are seeing Red-winged Blackbirds showing up in Ohio already. We have not seen any yet, but the migration has begun.

This photo is interesting. Stay warm and out of the snow.

The Warm Before The Cold

Adjustments.jpeg

It is about to get very cold here in Ohio. The temperature late this week will be in the single digits. Brrrr.

These geese do not seem to mind. They were just taking in the mild weather and enjoying some time in this pond.

Teresa captured this photo this week. Great shot.

One Fish To-Go

Adjustments.jpeg

There was a storm this past weekend and we drove out to Big Woods to see if there was any damage. We did see a lot of down trees along the road at the East entrance.

As we drive back into the reserve, I saw this King Fisher with his lunch. I guess he survived the storm .. can’t say that for this fish.

Too Cold For A Swim?

Adjustments.jpeg

We saw these three mallards landing on the Miami River as we were hiking on the bike trail. If you ask me, it is far too cold for a swim, but it didn’t seem to matter to them. They were not very close, but I captured this photo.
