Back Home

DSC_6699.jpeg

We are back and hiking the local trails. It always feels so good to be home. I can’t say enough about the beauty of the US. There is so much to see. I am adding a couple photo from Mount Rushmore, just to share.

The first photo is a Belted Kingfisher. She was hanging out on the Stillwater River. I heard her fly by our location. I told Teresa to wait, she would be back. Sure enough, she flew back to our location, then landed in this tree. Love this!!

Did I mention that we are glad to be home.

Magpie

This is a Black-billed Magpie. We have seen them before, but only when we are west of the Mississippi. They have this long tail that is easy to spot when they are flying, What a beautiful bird.

The Raven is a very large bird. We have photographed them in the past in California. They were all over the place at Yellowstone.

I really love this bird. They fly fast and with precision. Their large beak is strong. They are also very bold. I had one come right up by me. Crazy, very cool bird.

These photos are shots that Teresa and I took of them in various places around Yellowstone. I just thought I would share a few.

Nice Tux

A couple days ago I posted a photo from our hike in the Badlands of South Dakota. When we begin that hike, I had resigned myself to the idea that I was not going to photograph many of my flying friends (birds). Well, I was SO wrong.

As we made our way though the park, I heard the most beautiful, unique and distinctive bird call. There was actually two of them. I could only see one, but he was dressed in cool looking yellow and black tux. He would lift his head toward the sky and offer this cool performance. No dancing, no special movements ... just beautiful music.

So, what was this bird? It was a Western Meadowlark. I am so grateful to have seen this. Wow.

We have seen a number of bluejays lately. I thought I needed to share a few. The photos come from reserves / preserves from around the county. Yes, the jays were loud and obnoxious.
