Moo Bird

Adjustments.jpeg

This is a male cowbird. Recall that I posted a female a few days ago.

The head on the male is normally a brown, but in this lighting it looks black.

I really like this photo. He looks so mysterious.

‘Breathtaking’ Cardinal

Adjustments.jpeg
Adjustments.jpeg

We continue to see a large number of cardinals. The top photo is a male that I photographed as we had just started a hike along the Stillwater River. The second photo is a female that Teresa photographed. She was hanging out near the location of the first photo. Perhaps they are a couple. I lost count of how many we saw. We didn’t get a lot of photos, but it was a beatiful day.

When I shared the top photo with a friend, he commend that it was ‘breathtaking’. I agree. So beautiful.

Oriole Day

Adjustments.jpeg
Adjustments.jpeg

Every spring at about this time we see a number of Baltimore Oriole’s along the Miami River. Today was that day. We saw several, and managed to capture a few photos.

The Baltimore oriole is a icterid blackbird. This family of birds vary in size, but the common feature is the black as the predominate plumage. It makes for great contrast with bright colors such as yellow, orange, or red. That makes for a beautiful bird!

They sing loud, so we could hear him long before we could locate him. You would think that orange would be easy to spot, but it took a while. Once we located the first one, it was just a matter of time before we saw more. After that, they seem to be everywhere. They are so beautiful.

A Little Gold

Adjustments.jpeg

We have been watching for the American Goldfinch for weeks. Teresa saw a couple when we were driving about three weeks ago, and I thought I saw one about a week ago, but on both occasions we were not able to stop the car, confirm what it was, and then capture a photo. We questioned our vision, wondering if we really saw one, or perhaps it was something else.

This past week was it ... we finally saw one and captured this photograph. It was a little gold in our day!

Don’t Move

Adjustments.jpeg

We have been trying to get a good photo of a Blue Jay for weeks. I finally managed to capture this shot. It is not exactly the photo I was trying to get, but I’ll take it. Getting this guy to stand still long enough for me to focus was crazy.

Have a great day!
