I think he was contemplating a leap of faith from this tree to the bird feeder. I yelled, "Don't do it!"... but he jumped anyway.

This nuthatch clearly decided that the all-you-can-eat seed buffet was officially closed, and it was time to take a leap of faith into the trees for some gourmet bug hunting. Either that, or it was just trying to dramatically exit the conversation.

I guess she was checking me out. Either that, or she was trying to figure out if my camera was actually a weirdly shaped snack. When I asked if she’d ever seen one before, she just laughed—which I’m choosing to interpret as a standing ovation for my photography skills.

Agile Bird

I have always been fascinated by the White-breasted Nuthatch. I love watching these agile birds creep headfirst down tree trunks, probing the bark for insects. Their compact, almost neckless appearance and unique upside-down foraging habits make them truly remarkable.
