One Of Nature’s Great Divers

Adjustments.jpeg

I believe this is a double-crested cormorant. I have photographed this bird before, but it has been a long time since we encountered one. We actually saw two of them. The 1st one was a Kiser Lake a couple weeks ago, then we saw this one at Hueston Woods State Park earlier this week.

I guess she was shy. She would dive and stay under water for a long time, then surface some distance from where we last saw her. I managed this shot. They are great divers. From Wikipedia:

The double-crested cormorant swims low in the water, often with just its neck and head visible, and dives from the surface. It uses its feet for propulsion and is able to dive to a depth of 1.5–7.5 m (4 ft 11 in–24 ft 7 in) for 30–70 seconds. After diving, it spends long periods standing with its wings outstretched to allow them to dry, since they are not fully waterproofed. This species flies low over the water, with its bill tilted slightly upward, sometimes leaving the colony in long, single-file lines.

Amazing Clouds

Adjustments.jpeg
Adjustments.jpeg

I am sure you have had this experince: You are just driving down road when you notice the clouds are so cool. You stop the car for a photo .. Click 📸!! Good job!

Cloud formations are amazing. For me, this experience usuaully happens when there is a storm brewing. Or perhaps on a cold winter day with those heavy, dark clouds.

On this fall day, these clouds were amazing. The Sun rays poked through making for a cool photo too. Life is good.

Other side of …

Adjustments.jpeg

Like most of my photos, I shot this at a very long distance. This is a Red-bellied woodpecker. They will be around all winter, and it’s just starting to get cold.

He was perched in the top of a tree on the other side of the earth .. well, maybe not that far away. He was on the other side of a small pond. It was still a long shot. ❤️

Hiking We Will Go

Adjustments.jpeg

Early this past week Teresa and I decided to head to Hueston Woods State Park. The colors were not nearly as vibrant as at other locations. In fact, just a mile up the road we saw a lot more color. That was just interesting.

I still love this view. We hiked here for an hour or so, and then head back north.

This Green Pond

Adjustments.jpeg

The water level of this pond is way down, and its still very green. There was still a lot of green in these trees. That said, the mix of color is very cool.

This video contains photos and videos we have shot over the last two or three weeks. There are more photos than I am comfortable putting in a single video, but I wanted to share all of them. There are more, but these are some of the best!
