A Hike For The National Parks

public.jpeg

On special holidays or occasions, Apple features a challenge on the Apple Watch. Watch owners can earn special activity awards (badges) by completing the challenge. In the past, Apple has created a challenge for various holidays. For example, they have offered an activity award for New Years, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Mother Day, Women’s day .. and on and on.

This past Sunday they were offering an activity award for National Parks Day. To earn the activity award, you had to run, walk or wheelchair for 3 miles.

Why 3 miles? Well, The distance is the same as the distance of the popular South Kaibab Trail to Cedar Ridge and back at the Grand Cayon.

For our walk, we hiked along the Miami River. I captured the photo above while we were on that hike.

The second photo is of the badge.

In The Dark

public.jpeg

This photo is entirely to dark, but that is what I l Iike about it. This is a American Robin. A very common bird. He was hidden away in the trees, and I was behind him, where I took this photo. I could edit it to add brightness and more exposure, but the light makes it more mysterious. I really do like it.

Gone Fishing?

public.jpeg

No, we didn’t go fishing in the normal sense. Teresa capture this photo from a bridge over a small creek at Glenn Helen. It seemed like a large fish for such a small creek, but there it was. Great photo.

Thinking About Moving

public.jpeg

The finch were very active this week. We are coming into migration season before too long. In fact, some birds start preparing to migrate in July. In September you will see a lot more activity as migration moves into full swing. Get those cameras ready.

Purple, Yellow, Green, Brown …

Ironweed shows up in late summer. When the purple shows up, I know we are on the backside of summer. It is a butterfly magnet.

A little detail about this beautiful plant:

“Standing 4 to 6 feet tall at maturity, ironweed boasts a big garden presence when it begins blooming in late summer. That's because clusters of bright purple flowers decorate its tall stems for 6 weeks or more at the end of the growing season. Ironweed received its common name from its ironlike qualities: tough stems, tenacious growing habit, and flowers that give way to seed clusters the color of rust.” Source: Ironweed

If you live near a pond or river, and near some grassland, you should get out and see the beautiful colors ... to take a walk, and take your camera. Enjoy!
