Empty nesters

Now that the trees are bare, you can see all of the vacated bird nests. This one is special. This is the nest of a pair of Bald Eagles. They usually return and use the same nest each year, so I expect to see them soon. I have seen eagles here recently, so I expect them to come back to nest. Last year they brought us two beautiful, new eaglets. Nature at its best.

On the hunt

While hiking last week, we saw this hawk. It was a ways off, but I managed a few photos. I could not tell what kind of hawk, but she was hunting for dinner. I think this is the same hawk that we see frequently near I-75 where it passes by Troy.

Eagles and hawks ... oh my

Few things in the outdoors gets me more excited than the this .. a Bald Eagle! We spotted this one while we were at Deer Creek State Park. I was surprised to see the eagle and a hawk flying in the same space. More photos of our little outing are available o in this video. Enjoy.

The hunter .. The Osprey

We hiked at Eastwood MetroPark. When we arrived, there was a gentleman with a good bird lens looking at the trees. As it turns out, he was watching this Osprey. What a pleasant surprise. I took several photos, but never did get a great photo. The photos above are the best I was able to capture. Very cool.

The Osprey are a fish eater .. so it was not a surprise to see him here. I have been told that a pair of eagles show up frequently too. I didn’t see them while we were there.

In search of breakfast

Teresa and I saw this hawk while driving down the road. I didn’t get the picture right then, but saw her again and was in a better place to capture this photo. I saw her again the next day.

This hawk seems to hunt the same area most days. I have seen her grab prey at least once. She is an amazing hunter.
