Pelican water sports?

FullSizeRender.jpg

I wanted to share one more photo of the Pelicans from Grand Lake St Marys. I really should have tied to count them. I am confident that there was over 50. I assume they just took at break, for a couple weeks, at the lake. They are migrating.

The two that just landed in the photo look like they are water skiing.

A honey of a hike

FullSizeRender.jpg

I took this photo at Honey Creek Preserve on Friday morning. I was about 51°F, but it was such a beautiful day for a hike. The creek was pefect, and the water was so clear. The mosquito? Not so fun.

The video below was from this hike. We enjoyed it, and hope you do to.

Grand Lake St Marys ... Eagles

FullSizeRender.jpg
FullSizeRender.jpg

Yesterday, we visited several locations at Grand Lake Saint Marys. We manage to get in some hiking in too. Even with all the issues they have had, it’s still a beautiful lake. A couple weeks ago, we visited the east and south-east shores, today was started at Windy Point, and worked out way around to the west side.

The first photo is a of a young Bald Eagle. His sibling was nearby. Clearly, he has not molted yet, but it won’t be long. This pair remained me of the two that we have been watching near Piqua.

The second photo is of another young Bald Eagle that has already molted, but its not quite finised. Beautiful.

The video below is a series of still photos, and video from two different visits to the lake. Enjoy!

The spider and the butterfly

FullSizeRender.jpg

I love this photo of this Monarch, but the spider it the upper left is also interesting. He kind of jumps off the screen. I really didn’t notice him until I was editing the photo. I’m fairly certain they see each other, but maybe it does not matter .. it makes for a great photo.

What is cool about this photo is how the spider and the butterfly are about at the same focal length, so they are in focus, and the depth effect on the background is really great. That makes the spider pop even more, and really make the photo.

When you go on a hike, specifically to observe butterfly’s, you go where they are .. and its the same place where you see wildflowers and nature!

We took another butterfly walk on Oct 1st. We included a lot of photos, and they are included in this video:
