Heron She Is

This is a classic. We were between hiking locations in my car. As we drove across this small creek, Teresa starting making a lot of noise and waving her hands. She was so excited but I had no idea why. As it turns out this beautiful Great Blue Heron was doing some fishing in this small creek. What a beautiful bird. She took both of these photos. It was great.

Spring Date?

The Canada Goose .. such an interesting creature. The make a mess on the bike trails, and they can be very loud, but I think they are beautiful. We saw a lot of them this week while hiking. For the most part they were couples. I mean there must have been 20 to 30 of them on the pond, but in almost every case they were two close together (see the 1st two photos). They were making music as they were on an early spring date.

Laying Low

The front lot at Farrington Reserve was flooded this week. I guess it was a combinaion of melting snow and heavy rain, but there was a lot of water. We stopped because we saw this Mallard 'couple' swimming in the new 'pond' created by all of water. They quickly swim to this little area off to the side ... I guess they were lying low trying to avoid any attention. They were really well concealed.
