Bird of prey

FullSizeRender.jpg

We were back outdoors taking photos yesterday. The temperature had climbed to double digits (barely) so it was time. We saw this hawk at least three times, but on the third time, I was finally in a position to capture a decent photo.

I was driving east when I saw her fly across the road in front of me. This was a country road and luck for us, no cars in sight. I pulled forward and looked to the south and there she was .. about 50 feet from me. She turned her head to face me, then just slowly rotated it back toward the south. I snapped off about 10 pictures, then just watched her until she flew away. We didn’t stick around since it was evident she was hunting and I didn’t want to disturb this beautiful creature.

Empty nesters

FullSizeRender.jpg

Now that the trees are bare, you can see all of the vacated bird nests. This one is special. This is the nest of a pair of Bald Eagles. They usually return and use the same nest each year, so I expect to see them soon. I have seen eagles here recently, so I expect them to come back to nest. Last year they brought us two beautiful, new eaglets. Nature at its best.

On the hunt

FullSizeRender.jpg

While hiking last week, we saw this hawk. It was a ways off, but I managed a few photos. I could not tell what kind of hawk, but she was hunting for dinner. I think this is the same hawk that we see frequently near I-75 where it passes by Troy.
