Focus

Adjustments.jpeg

This Downy Woodpecker was really focused and engaged. He was working on this tree like it had to be done right away.

I had to squeeze this shot between a couple of trees, but I got it. The challenge is sometimes more rewarding than the actual outcome.

A Towhee

This is an Eastern Towhee. The App I use to identify birds calls this bird a ‘large sparrow’. It has much more color than most sparrows, especially this male. They have the black head and contrasting white breast.

We attempted to capture a better photo, but with the position of the sun, and our location on the trail, made this a difficult shot. Teresa took one of these, and I took the other two. I played with the edit to try and enhance it, but I may have made it worse.

A very cool bird.

Cool Dude

Adjustments.jpeg

This is a Robin that I phoitographed near the Stillwater River. We had just finished hiking and as I was about to get into the car, I saw this guy in a nearby tree.

This photo is funny. At this angle, and with the lighting, the Robin appears to have a ‘cool’ haircut. Then again, maybe its just me and all the issues with haircuts and lockdowns. Stay safe!

Black, Red and Yellow

Adjustments.jpeg

I wish I captured a better photo. I was setting in the car watching this Red-winged Blackbird. He was so beautiful. The problem with this shot is that twig ... it’s right in the middle of the photo. 🤓

The color is interesting. The lighting washed out the red, leaving a orange hue, but it was so beautiful. I see a lot of these birds, but this one had the best color I have seen this spring.

Sing It Loud

Adjustments.jpeg
Adjustments.jpeg

This is a Carolina Wren. He was jumping from branch to branch, making this a difficult shot. Beautiful bird with a beautiful song.

A little more about this cool bird:

There are seven recognized subspecies across the range of these wrens and they differ slightly in song and appearance. The birds are generally inconspicuous, avoiding the open for extended periods of time. When out in the open, they investigate their surroundings and are rarely stationary. After finding a mate, pairs maintain a territory and stay together for several years. Both sexes give out alarm calls, but only males sing to advertise territory. Carolina wrens raise multiple broods during the summer breeding season ... (Wikipedia)
