The Grackle

Adjustments.jpeg

This beautiful bird is a ‘Common Grackle’. You can pick them out by their bright yellow eyes and the metallic purple sheen around their head. If you watch them you may also notice that they walk instead of hop like many other birds.

They migrate, so it was great to see one.

A Yellow Rump?

Adjustments.jpeg

I am about 90% sure this is a Yellow-rumped (Myrtle) Warbler. We saw several of them, but this is the only photos we were able to capture. We tried to get a better photo, but they were just too active.

Teresa took the top photo, and I shot the 2nd photo. I love the color pattern.

Making Beautiful Music

Adjustments.jpeg

We were walking along the trail by the Stillwater River and could hear a bird singing. I really did not recognize it. I have heard Grey Catbirds many times, but never this call. It was so beautiful. This is the first one we have see this year.

Peaceful Fishing

Adjustments.jpeg

It has been a while since we have seen a Great Blue Heron. This one was fishing in the Stillwater River, just off the trail.

It has been crowded at the various county parks and hiking trails. They are noisy and scare the birds sometimes. This guy .. he just flys away and finds a more peaceful place to fish.

More Gold

Adjustments.jpeg

I really enjoy taking photographs of Goldfinch. Now that they are around the area, I am seeing them almost daily. This one was especially beautiful and seemed to pose for this photo.

A day later, we were in the same area and the goldfinch were there in very large numbers. I tried to count them, but I know there was at least 40 to 50. It was crazy. I had the wrong lens to capture a view of the scene, but I did manage this shot of a few of them.
