Another Red Head

Both of these photos are of the same woodpecker. I wanted to share the second photo because in most of my Red-bellied Woodpecker photographs you cannot see the colors on their belly. I guess the lighting was just right for this shot.

This is a female. She didn’t seem to mind our presence. Between the two of us, we shot some 10 to 15 photos.

What She Said …

The top photo is a shot I took this week of a female Eastern Bluebird. The male is in the second photo. We are still seeing Bluebirds near the Stillwater river. What a beautiful bird. The blue stands out and is vibrant.

A Nut!

Adjustments.jpeg

During this recent cold spell, we took a lot of photos near bird feeders. This day was no different. I managed this photo of a White-breasted Nuthatch.

This is a male. You can tell the difference by the color of the crown. The female has a blue-grey crown, while the male has a black crown. .

Hiding Places?

I just about missed this this Belted Kingfisher. I think this is the same one I photographed a couple weeks ago with his lunch. I have seen and heard him several times since, but today I found him in this tree. He is kind of hard to pick out of the branches, but he’s cool looking.

A Bug Feast?

Adjustments.jpeg
Adjustments.jpeg

This is a Red-bellied Woodpecker. I see this variety of woodpecker frequently, but this one was feasting on some local bugs. I can only assume he was enjoying the feast.

The weather has not been nice, but on this day, the clouds cleared and the sun warmed things up. The birds were so active. He ignored me for a while, then flew off with some good, high quality protein in that red belly.
