Before and After Lunch

Yesterday afternoon we took a walk on the bike path and then drove out to Garbry Big Woods Reserve. It was very warm, and there was not much activity. We did see some turtles .. but that’s a photo for another day.

Just before we headed home I saw this Red-headed Woodpecker in a tree at the entrance to the Garbry Big Woods Sanctuary. I shot the photo on the right. The shadows were not great, but it was a photo.

Suddenly the woodpecker took off, heading in my direction, but at about a 40° incline. After a short flight, he seemed to stop mid-flight then return to the same tree. I captured a much better photo, but missed the best shot of what looked like a dragonfly in his mouth. In that photo you can tell he is still working on getting it down the hatch. Yummy, protein.

Just Hanging Around

This photo didn’t come out very good, but I was able to capture this photo of this Carolina Chickadee. This bird loves bird feeders, which is where we found her. A very cool bird.

Finch Sitting

Teresa and I were on our way home from a hike when we spotted these four American Finches setting on a fence. Notice this is a double date, two males and two females.

Cat in a Tree?

I love the plumage of the Grey Catbird. I especially love long tail feathers. They are a very unique species, but so beautiful.

Hiking We Will Go ..

public.jpeg

We took a hike at Narrows Reserve on Wednesday of this week. While we did not see a lot of wildlife, it was still very beautiful. The trail is rough, and if you did not watch where you were walking, it was easy to trip. The LIttle Miami River borders the trail where we hiked. Beautiful, but a lot of mosquitos. Enjoy the video.

The Goldfinch above was actually photographed a couple days ealier at big woods .. I just wanted to share it.
