It Was a Long Flight

FullSizeRender.jpg

This is an Eastern Phoebe. They are a small flycatcher. We saw several of them while hiking at Maple Woods, but this is the best photo I was able to capture.

They migrate from the ohio valley, all the way to the Gulf coasts. This bird had a long trip.

Just a Jay

FullSizeRender.jpg

I have seen several blue jays this spring, but this is the best photo I have been able to capture so far. It’s not great, but you can see the beautiful colors. I saw one a week ago that was making a lot of noise. They can be very loud when they get worked up.

I Found Gold!

FullSizeRender.jpg

This female cardinal seems to have struck gold. This is freshly planted grass. I’m sure the worms are also very plentiful too.

This photo came out great. I love cardinals and this shot is no exception. I love it.

Return of The Green Heron:)

We saw a couple of Green Herons this week. It was a cloudy day, and not great for photography, but this guy was in a good place to capture a couple photos. Teresa didn’t have the right lens for the distance, but managed to get a good shot. The second photo is cropped to enlarge the image, but it is a little blurry. It’s still a great photo, given the distance. The 3rd photo is of another one, in a tree. I took this with the longer lens, but at a much greater distance. It is still not a good photo. It’s too dark! It was still a treat to see they have returned.

Where is The Cat?

FullSizeRender.jpg

Sorry that it is so difficult to see her, but this is the first of the Gray Catbirds I have seen this year. Here is the thing ... you can hear this species way before you can see them. They sound so much like a cat. I think I have mentioned this before, but it gets me every time.

I am also adding this video that includes a lot of extra photos and video from recent hikes.
