Fishing king or Kingfisher?

This Belted Kingfisher was anxious to have his photo taken. There was more than one of them on this morning, but this one seemed to be very interested in a portrait photo. He favored his left side.

A waxwing meetup

I saw these Cedar Waxwings at Stillwater Prairie Reserve. ​I didn’t count, but there was so many of them. These are couple of the better photos. They are a beautiful bird, and have amazing flying skills.

I’m starting to see early signs of fall. The crops are starting to turn to yellow, and while hiking, I saw leaves falling all around me. Wildlife is also displaying early signs of preparing for the season change. It will not be long until the migration begins. That, my friends, is sad .. but there will be spring again, and new photos to take.

Late Friday, we watched our grandchildren in Troy. I had a window of time, and took a walk at the John A. Wannemacher Nature Reserve. Some of the footage form that hike is in today’s video. Comments and feedback welcome!

Pileated Woodpecker

The Pileated Woodpecker is large, and has a unique call. This looks like a younger bird, but I found him by listening to him. They are easy to spot when they are flying due to the white in their wings. I have seem them near Garbry Big woods before, but this is the 1st one I have seen near the river in a long time.

I posted a new video yesterday. In addition to a bird each day here, I am posting a video on YouTube with photos and videos from my hikes. This one is shorter than my target length, but it had been raining. I’ll just post it hear .. as I try to figure how to best share them:

So young ..

This week has brought a lot of young birds. They are out of the nest and very active. I saw this juvenile cardinal along the Miami River this week. It is not perfectly focused, but it was very cool. There was two of them, and they don’t seem to care that I was there.

A bunting and a tune

This indigo bunting has been singing to me every morning for a couple weeks. He has a favorite tree too, and it is located right above the trail. He perches there almost every day and sings his beautiful song. It’s beautiful, and so is he.

I love the black pattern on the blue. It really shows up in the 1st photo.
