Wait for it ..

This is a common field sparrow .. but I love how he was so focused. I froze and slowly lifted the camera. I had time for a few photos, but I think this is the best shot.

The Steller Jay

It was difficult to confirm this, but I believe this is a Steller Jay. They are the only new world Jay to use mud to build their nest. I really didn’t think I captured the photo. I saw him take off, and just started snapping photos. I found this in my pictures when I got back to our cabin.

Raven Humor

Ravens having fun .. Tag, your it.

Of the assorted wildlife we saw at Yosemite, the clown award goes to the Ravens. They were so funny to watch. First, they were very bold. They would fly very close, and often land a few feet from people. Then they would take a couple of jumps, grab something off the ground, and take off.

They seem to fly so effortlessly. I have seen Raven before, but I guess I never watched them fly. They really know how to make it look fun, and they can soar. A fun bird.

The restless sparrow

FullSizeRender.jpg

This American Tree Sparrow caught my attention, and ultimately the attention of my camera. I captured this photo a few months ago, but it’s timeless. When I was young, I was captivated by sparrows. They were so fast, and never seemed to pause long ... just the restless sparrow.

This one has been a long time coming. I have taken a few photos of blue jays over the years, but I have struggled to get a good shot. I could hear him long before I was able to locate him. He was straight over my head, way up in this tree. I had to step back to get an angle The 1st shot was his back side.... not what I was looking for. Lucky for me, he jumped to the right and gave me this profile. I was able to get this shot. There is a twig in the way, but it’s not bad. I did see another cardinal or two, and managed a few photos of them as well.

We will be in Yosemite soon. I hope post some grant photos from there. Have a beautiful weekend.
