Rays of sun

IMG_0094.JPG

This has not been a great week for photography .. at least not for photos of nature, wildlife or landscapes. I have captured several interesting photos, but the rain and fog have been intense.

I took this sunset a couple seeks ago. The saturation is a little much, but it was beautiful.

The other photos below demonstrate are not great but you get to see the fog:). I should have captured a photograph of the rain, but I was trying to stay dry.

I didn’t see that coming

FullSizeRender.jpg

Early Tuesday morning, I had breakfast with a friend that I worked with in my last place of employment. When we finished, I drove out to Garbry Big Woods just for fun. I had my camera with me, so I figured it was worth the drive. As I came around the bend in the road, I see this hawk .. just setting on the pole. It appears that breakfast was large and filling. I was so very close .. fun. ~ Rick

A bunting and a tune

FullSizeRender.jpg

This indigo bunting has been singing to me every morning for a couple weeks. He has a favorite tree too, and it is located right above the trail. He perches there almost every day and sings his beautiful song. It’s beautiful, and so is he.

I love the black pattern on the blue. It really shows up in the 1st photo.

A woodpecker convention?

FullSizeRender.jpg

This Red-bellied woodpecker seemed to be inquisitive, but he only stuck around for a few minutes, then took off. I was able to get another shot before I lost sight of him. This was taken on Sunday, July 29. We saw several of them along the Miami River. It must have been a woodpecker convention.

Belted Kingfisher

FullSizeRender.jpg

I have to share the story behind this photo. Teresa and I were out on Sunday morning taking photos. As we drove by one of my favorite spots, I saw this bird land in a dead tree. I have seen lots of amazing birds in this tree, so I decided to look closer. At first, I told Teresa it was a blue jay, then I looked at the shot I had just taken .. it was blurry, and very small, but I immediately knew I had something else in front of me. It has the crown that captured my attention. The Blurry photo is at the bottom of this post. It’s really a bad photo, but it got me excited.

This is a Belted Kingfisher. They tunnel into riverbanks or shores to nest. This is the first one I have seen around here, and certainly the first one I have captured in my photography. Cool bird.
