Belted Kingfisher

I have to share the story behind this photo. Teresa and I were out on Sunday morning taking photos. As we drove by one of my favorite spots, I saw this bird land in a dead tree. I have seen lots of amazing birds in this tree, so I decided to look closer. At first, I told Teresa it was a blue jay, then I looked at the shot I had just taken .. it was blurry, and very small, but I immediately knew I had something else in front of me. It has the crown that captured my attention. The Blurry photo is at the bottom of this post. It’s really a bad photo, but it got me excited.

This is a Belted Kingfisher. They tunnel into riverbanks or shores to nest. This is the first one I have seen around here, and certainly the first one I have captured in my photography. Cool bird.
