Eastern Kingbird

Adjustments.jpeg

This is a flycatcher. More specifically, it is an Eastern Kingbird. The white tip on the tale is one of the key ways to identify this bird. There was two of them in this tree, but this was the best photograph.

This bird is fearless. I have read stories of them attacking much larger birds to defend their nest.

Blue Birds

Adjustments.jpeg

I saw this Eastern Bluebird this week. I think I have seen more of them this year than in the past. Sadly, I have not seen a Indigo Bunting. I keep looking but they are just hiding from me.

Happy Monday!

Brave Song Sparrow

Adjustments.jpeg

This is a brave little song sparrow. Teresa was driving out of the parking lot at Big Woods Sanctuary when I spotted her. We continued the drive very slowly ... I was amazed at how close we were able to get. I didn’t need much of a lens to get a good photo.

Flap Harder

We saw this American Goldfinch while hiking a couple weeks ago. They are such beautiful birds.

I love to watch them fly. They flap their wings so hard, then mid flight they pause. You see this dip in their flight until they start flapping again. This continue until they reach their destination. Nature at her best .. finding a way to make it work.

Sometimes I find that I have to take a break. You just cannot run ‘full-out’ all the time. Enjoy your day and stop flapping all the time.

A Better Photo …

Adjustments.jpeg

I love this time of year. It is not uncommon for us to return to a hiking location and see the same birds after missing a shot on a previous visit / hike.

This is one of those birds that I photographed previously, but the photo was just not great. I posted a photo of a Carolina Wren last week. It was not a bad photo. We went back this past weekend and I saw this one. This is a much better photo. I love it.
