I Have Missed You!

It has been weeks .. no, months since I have photographed a Cardinal. This one was anxious to let me photograph him. Such a beautiful bird.

Native American tradition holds the spiritual belief that spirits, or souls, inhabit the universe and each of its natural elements. The belief that all birds and other animals, known as power or medicine animals, are messengers from the Great Spirit has long been an element of shamanism. American Tree Sparrow

It is common to see American tree sparrows this time of year. They are also known as the winter sparrow. They tend to show up in numbers. It's a party I guess.

A few facts about this small sparrow:

Their breeding habitat is tundra or the northern limits of the boreal forest in Alaska and northern Canada. They nest on the ground.

These birds migrate into southern Canada and the United States to spend the winter. Usually, chipping sparrows are moving south around the same time as these birds arrive.

These birds forage on the ground or in low bushes, often in flocks when not nesting. They mainly eat seeds and insects, but also eat some berries. They are commonly seen near feeders with dark-eyed juncos.

Standing Watch

We have seen a few birds this week. Several of them have been at bird feeders around Miami County. This little guy was just standing watch and enjoying the warmer weather.

Loud Crows

One of the most common birds you see here this time of year is the American Crow. Of course, you hear one long before you see him. They are rather loud and obnoxious.

Snug As A …

We saw a number of Mourning Doves this week. They are all fattened up for the cold weather. They sure looked cold, but I am guessing that under that winter coat they are snug and warm.
